Many people not familiar in motorcycling may consider all motorcycling that is off of the pavement “Off-Road”…however within the motorcycle community Off-Road usually refers to Hare Scramble and Trail Riding… Motocross is Motocross – Supercross is Supercross… so on and so forth. In many cases the motorcycles used are similar so with a few add-on’s or modifications you can be on your way to experiencing more than one way to MOTO!Īlso – although motorcycling may be a male dominated sport – there are huge numbers of women that compete and participate in the sport… Don’t feel intimidated by the fact that you may show up to ride and be the only woman/girl – people will be happy to see you and invite you in and you will no doubt inspire other women/girls to try the sport as well! I have made a list below with a small description as well as links for you to check out the different motorcycle disciplines. You may be drawn to a couple different types – you don’t have to specialize in just one, its actually really great to cross-ride and train.
There are so many great disciplines of Off-Road, Dirt Biking. One of the the first sites you should check out is actually the American Motorcyclist Association – they are a great resource and you don’t need to be a member to take advantage of all the information on that site – however being a member does have some great benefits as well as your membership helps the organization protect the rights of motorcyclists! There are also many riding clubs that can get you started in the right direction… The internet is a great tool to start searching for clubs in your area. Along with will tips on getting started from my own experiences as well as links to sites that can provide you with information to set you on a path to success! I will share some information about my motorcycling journey regarding bike selection. Choosing a motorcycle is definitely a personal journey and what works for some doesn’t necessarily work for everyone.
